Introduction
Repton Prep School is located at Foremarke Hall, which is situated approximately 1.5 miles north of Repton in South Derbyshire.
The school instructed Allsopp Construction to undertake a comprehensive upgrade to its swimming pool complex. The project began in July 2024; part 1 focusing on internal changing room refurbishment and replacing the roof.
Part 1 was completed and handed over in early September 2024, in time for the new school year. Part 2, which involved re-cladding the building’s exterior, was finished in October 2024, giving the building a fresh, modern appearance.
Site and Construction
The site itself was straightforward; however, working at an operational school required careful planning to address key safety aspects. Including managing traffic flow, operating machinery responsibly, and prioritising the safety and safeguarding of staff and pupils at all times.
The project began with a comprehensive internal renovation, including the complete strip-out of the existing changing rooms. Ceilings, floors, showers, and sanitary ware were removed to make way for modern, high-quality replacements.
Externally, the pitched roof on the changing rooms was replaced with a modern flat roof, seamlessly integrating with the newly installed external cladding. This phase also included replacing the external walls, which were stripped back to the timber frame and re-clad with durable and aesthetically pleasing Swiss Pearl Patina boards and Monocouche-style render.
While the refurbished facilities became operational for students in September, ongoing external work was carefully managed behind safety barriers to avoid disruptions.
Design and Features
The internal refurbishment of the changing rooms brought a fresh, contemporary design to the space. Key upgrades included:
- Reconfigured Layout: Maximising usability and flow.
- New Finishes: Suspended ceilings, updated flooring, and durable, easy-to-clean white rock hygienic walling.
- Upgraded Facilities: Modern showers, toilets, lockers, and bench seating for enhanced comfort and practicality.
- Improved Infrastructure: A new heating system and enhanced lighting to provide energy-efficient and effective solutions.
- External Upgrades: Modern flat roof and sleek cladding to create a cohesive, streamlined appearance.
Part 2 of the project, focused on the swimming pool roof and new external cladding. The new Swiss Pearl cladding fully modernises the complex and aligns with the school’s vision for functionality and design excellence.
The completed phase of the project was handed over slightly ahead of schedule at the end of October 2024.
