Home Renovation by Allsopp Construction. In 2021, our clients purchased Woodlands, a 1970s property at Draycott in the Clay, Staffordshire. While it had potential, the house had fallen into serious disrepair and no longer suited modern family life. Two years later, after extensive demolition, engineering and meticulous design and construction, the transformation is complete.
Before: What We Started With
At purchase, Woodlands was a 3,000 sq ft red-brick home with mock Tudor detailing and a separate triple garage. The layout was dated and the building was in a poor state of repair.
The client’s brief was ambitious: they wanted a large, modern family home that celebrated light, space, and sustainability, while also offering high-spec wellness and leisure spaces. Their vision included a full architectural redesign, multiple extensions, integrated smart tech, and a complete rethink of how the spaces worked.
The Journey: Demolition, Rebuild and Technical Construction
Planning permission was granted in 2022, and from there, the Home Renovation by Allsopp Construction began in earnest:
- Two-thirds of the original home were demolished.
- New foundations were laid to create a larger L-shaped footprint.
- The house was extended to the front, rear and side, increasing the total size to 4,000 sq ft.
- A standing seam aluminium roof was installed, complete with in-line solar panels and a battery backup system.
- A complex angled front gable was added, clad in Swiss Pearl Patina boards.
- A new frameless glazed link was created to connect the main house to a new gym and leisure wing.
- At the rear, a 6m-high porcelain-tiled patio was constructed, engineered to support a sunken 5.8m x 2.4m swim spa and hot tub.
