Work continues across the Liversage Trust almshouses on London Road, Derby, with plenty happening across Blocks A, B and C.
It was a particularly dark and wet day when we took these photos, with floodlights needed inside while the electricians and plumbers continued with the first-fix work.
Block A
Structural strengthening and repair work to the roof continues, including work to the valleys and rafters. As you would expect when working on Grade II listed buildings, repairing the existing structure isn’t always as straightforward as removing damaged timber and replacing it with new.
The original timbers need to be retained, so where they have deteriorated, additional timbers are being installed alongside them to provide the needed necessary strength. Removing the original rafters would damage the ceilings below, which we can’t do so the repair work has to be carried out around the existing structure.
First-fix electrical and plumbing work has started, while metal studwork upstairs is beginning to form the new bedrooms and bathrooms.
Work is also progressing in the second half of Block A, which forms part of Phase 2 of the project.
The strip-out and strip-back is underway, including the removal of internal render in preparation for the new damp-proofing works. The structural steelwork is complete and the final three existing staircases are being removed.
Block B
In Block B, work to knock through two of the existing almshouses to create one larger home has started, with structural steelwork ongoing.
Block C
The roof to Block C is nearing completion and, internally, plastering of the new units is continuing.
Brickwork repair work is also progressing across the site, with a further 80 individual bricks identified for replacement by hand as part of the ongoing conservation work.
Work continues across the site, with different trades moving into different areas as the programme allows, keeping the project moving forward.
