Woodlands, a substantial 3,000 sq ft family home from the 1970s known for its distinctive style with mahogany, wood panelling, bold colours, and sunken living rooms, is undergoing significant transformation. Purchased in 2021, the property received planning approval for extensive extensions, alterations, and enhancements in 2022. The planning and design work is being carried out by Turner & Co Consultancy based in Tutbury.

The planning permission allows for extensive development, with two-thirds of the original house being demolished. To date, Allsopp Construction has laid new foundations for the L-shaped property, which is being extended to the front, rear, and side. The brickwork is complete, and the standing seam aluminium roof is nearing completion. The front elevation of the property features an angled gable that leans forward, constructed using Swiss Pearl Patina cladding boards.

A notable part of the original property, the triple garage, is being converted into a major project of its own. The works include creating a top-floor games room with a gymnasium, changing rooms, storage, and a plant room, while some of the building will remain as a garage. Three dormer windows have been added to provide extra space and improve the architectural appeal of the building. The roof has been replaced with a standing seam aluminium roof, and the dormers are designed to emphasize the angular form, adding visual fluidity and continuity to the structure.

At the rear of the garage complex, a large porcelain patio area is being constructed, effectively 6 meters above ground level due to the property’s elevation. This area will feature a sunken swim spa and hot tub, all connected to the main house via a frameless glass link. Upon completion, the house will total 4,000 sq ft.

As the £1.9 million construction progresses to the internal works phase, we look forward to sharing some of the incredible internal features that will make Woodlands a standout property once again.
