The works involve creating a new first floor and viewing gallery. The existing roof is being removed to make way for an upper storey, which will includes a master bedroom suite, cinema room and a striking contemporary gable with a double-height viewing gallery.
Roof Structure & External Works
The new first floor is now clearly taking shape. The roof construction is well underway, with a mixed-finish design that combines clay tiles to the rear with aluminium standing seam to the front. This unusual but deliberate design choice enhances the architectural impact of the viewing gallery, drawing attention to the impressive 4.6m high feature window that frames spectacular views of the Derbyshire Dales.
- The standing seam section of the roof has been prepared with solid plywood sheeting.
- The larger roof section has been fully constructed in timber, with all preparation work completed in readiness for final finishes.
- Solar panel trays have been sunken into the roof structure, allowing seamless integration into the final roof surface.
- A box gutter system is being constructed around the perimeter of the roof to remain hidden within the facias and soffits.
The new roof forms a distinctive T-shape, enhancing the architectural rhythm of the property. The curtain wall glazing system—supplied by SMART Window Systems—will consist of four vertically divided structural glass panels, creating a near-cathedral effect in the front elevation.
Internal Works
Inside, the first fix joinery is underway. To enhance light and create a greater sense of space, all the ground floor ceilings have been raised, along with the height of all door openings (by 70mm).
The property is undergoing a full rewire and electrical upgrade. An Air Source Heat Pump (supplied by IMS Heatpumps) is being installed and underfloor heating throughout, resulting in raised floor levels.
Originally expected to complete by June 2025, additional works have been added to the project, in particular the fit out of the cinema.
Completion now expected by August 2025.
