Since our last update in May, work at Cloud Lodge in Mapleton, near Ashbourne, has continued at pace, bringing the vision of a striking two-storey home with a master suite, cinema room and dramatic double-height viewing gallery closer to completion.
The property’s footprint remains the same, with all additional space created by the new first floor.
Over the past three months, the first floor has been fully constructed, plastered and completed to first fix. The standing seam aluminium roof and cladding to the front elevation are now finished, and the MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery) system is in place, ensuring constant fresh air, improved air quality, and efficient temperature control. A new air source heat pump has been installed to serve the entire property, replacing the original plan to keep downstairs radiators. As a result, underfloor heating has now been installed throughout.
Originally focused on the upper storey, the project scope has expanded to include significant upgrades to the ground floor. All downstairs ceilings have been raised by 200mm, it has been replastered, and the single-storey lounge roof is currently being replaced after significant amounts of rot were discovered. This has provided an opportunity to install an additional eight solar panels, increasing the property’s energy efficiency and solar net gain.
Inside, preparations are underway for some of the most exciting features. The cinema room is ready for specialist fit-out, complete with an elevated platform for two rows of seating and a dedicated bar area. Ceramic flooring installation has begun, and the new master bedroom, dressing area, and ensuite are being fitted out by Steven Christopher. The double height viewing gallery is looking stunning, but the real stars of the show are those incredible views.
Completion is now targeted for the end of October, Cloud Lodge is evolving into a modern, energy-efficient home with exceptional architectural impact.
