Work continues on the Grade II listed almshouses in Derby, with progress across Blocks A, B and C at the Liversage Trust Almshouses on London Road. Block C is moving towards completion, while Blocks A and B are progressing through the different stages of the refurbishment.
Block C remains the furthest advanced block and is heading towards completion. All lime plastering is now complete and there is no further structural work to do. The focus is now on putting the interiors back and creating the new homes.
Roofing work around the vents is under way, following confirmation from the conservation officers of what is acceptable. When it is finished, we will see the biggest difference to date as the scaffolding comes down. We could not restore the windows while the scaffolding was in place, so this work will follow.
The new front doors have arrived and are ready to fit. Work is now moving on to refitting the kitchens and bathrooms and installing the MVHR (mechanical ventilation with heat recovery) system, with window restoration to follow.
Block B has seen the most progress this month. The team has completed all structural changes, including new joists and flooring where the old staircases came out. We have erected scaffolding on Block B so the we can inspect the chimneys and identify any repairs or replacements. Thermal upgrade works have also started.
In the first half of Block A, chimney repairs have started, following the inspection reported in our last update. First fix plumbing, heating and electrics are complete. MVHR installation has started and lime plastering is under way. Restoration of the existing external doors has also begun.
In the second half, wallpaper stripping is complete, and that was a big job! Damp-proofing is also finished.
Across the site ducting for the new water connections is in and drainage works have started. Strip-out of the boardroom has also begun.
With Block C heading towards completion and work progressing across Blocks A and B, the project continues to repair, upgrade and reconfigure the listed almshouses in Derby into 17 homes.
