Priory Lands, located in Stretton, Burton upon Trent, was a traditional two-bedroom bungalow that has undergone extensive renovation, alteration and modernisation.
This project came about in a rather unique way. Instead of through a typical tender or word-of-mouth referral, the owner of Priory Lands spotted one of our previous projects while driving through Newhall, a nearby village. She was so impressed with the property that she stopped, knocked on the door, and asked the owners who had built it. They told her it was Allsopp Construction project, and she immediately contacted Martyn to request something similar to a bungalow that she had recently inherited.
Turner & Co. managed the design and planning process. Planning permission was granted in August 2023, with construction beginning in Spring 2024.
The project involved significant extensions and remodelling. Three of the external walls were demolished, leaving only one original wall intact. The work carried out comprised single-storey and two-storey side and rear extensions and roof alterations including raising the ridge height to create a first-floor master suite with rear-facing Juliette balcony.
The completed project is modern, unique, and vibrant, giving the property a fresh and exciting new look. It has truly revitalised the space, and needless to say, the client is thrilled with the outcome.
Site and Construction
The site presented no significant challenges, allowing for a smooth construction process. The project, which began in May 2023, was completed over six months.
It is interesting to note that as the property had been unoccupied for more than three years, VAT on all expenses was reduced to 5%. The project has now reached practical completion and has been successfully handed over to the client.”
Design and Features
The property has undergone extensive external and internal modifications, enhancing both its functionality and aesthetics. A striking full-height glass gable at the front creates a double-height entrance, creating a standout feature and flooding the space with light. The front porch is adorned with a large, ornate lantern, adding further charm.
The front elevation is partially clad with rhombus shaped powder coated aluminium shingles.
Inside, the high-quality fit-out includes a spacious, open-plan lounge, kitchen, and dining area measuring 11m x 9m, complete with a stunning Stephen Christopher kitchen. A cosy snug is located at the front of the property, providing a cosy space.
One bathroom features hexagonal gold tiles with gold glitter grout, while the en-suite boasts dark green tiles with black grout and matching black sanitaryware—bold choices that perfectly reflect the client’s personality and taste. Externally, the home is finished with sleek black Crittall-style windows.
The completion of the landscaping was not part of the project for Allsopp Construction. Handover occurred prior to the commencement of landscaping work.
