Work begins on a contemporary new home in Spondon, Derby. A Contemporary modern home will replace the original bungalow.

Allsopp Construction has commenced work on a contemporary new home in Spondon. This a replacement dwelling for a private client and has a contract value of £1,000,000.

The replacement dwelling is a flat-roofed, two-storey residence designed with an emphasis on clean lines and a functional, open-plan layout. The build will have an industrial yet contemporary mix of materials and finishes, combining traditional facing brick with modern black timber cladding and weathered metal detailing.

A defining feature of the design is the double-height, fully glazed entrance hall, which will incorporate structural concrete walls and an open-tread staircase. All the windows and doors are a slimline Reynaers system. While the front elevation maintains a more private profile, the rear of the property features a central, two-storey glass stairwell, providing a significant glazing feature that overlooks the gardens.

The ground floor is centered around a large open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area, complete with a double sided free standing log burner. Functional spaces, with utility and plant room off. There will also be a bedroom with en-suite on the ground floor.

The first floor will have a spacious Master suite; featuring a large dressing room and en-suite, plus two further bedrooms and a family bathroom.

The home will feature underfloor heating throughout, powered by a modern and efficient Vaillant aroTHERM Plus air source heat pump. This will be complemented by a Vent-Axia MVHR system installed throughout the property to improve energy efficiency and indoor air quality.

A comprehensive solar PV system will be installed on the roof, alongside battery storage, enabling efficient use of generated electricity and the ability to feed surplus power back into the grid.

Work officially commenced on-site on 5th January 2026. Initial phases include site setup, signage installation and demolition of the bungalow.

Externally, the new dwelling will incorporate an integrated garage, car port, pergola, along with new entrance walling, fully automated gates and associated landscaping works.
