Following preparatory works that we undertook in December 2025 on the roof of the Sir Clive Granger Building at University Park Campus, Nottingham we have now been awarded the full roof replacement project.
The £700,000 project marks the next phase of a longer-term programme to address significant issues with the existing roof, which is now around 30 years old and has been in a poor state of repair for some time. Over the past five years, the roof has had ongoing maintenance and patching due to persistent leaks, making these works long overdue.
We tendered for the full works through the University’s competitive tendering portal and have been awarded the contract for the full roof replacement. This is an important contract win for our team.
Extensive condition surveys were carried out prior to the main works commencing. The surveys confirmed that, although the roof covering itself is in poor condition, the existing roof shows no signs of rot.
As a result, the existing roof will remain in place. It will be stripped back and cleaned, providing a solid base for the new roofing system.
A new flat roof system will then be installed over the existing using a Garland roofing system, a high-performance and durable commercial roofing solution widely used on refurbishment projects and large flat roofs.
Given the scale and complexity of the building, fully removing and replacing the existing roof was not considered a practical option, making this overlay solution the most effective long-term approach.
We will be working alongside specialist roofing contractor Higham Roofing to deliver the project, with scaffolding currently being erected and the main roofing works scheduled to begin in mid-April.
Alongside this major roof replacement project, our team continues to deliver ongoing maintenance, and improvement works across the University campus. During this project, we will also be carrying out improved drainage works in the courtyard of the Sir Clive Granger Building, along with the replacement of selected glazing units.
